Indian Postal Index Number (PIN) is a 6 digit number. Indian postal code covers a lot of area unlike european post codes (UK, for example). Writing PIN number on the address ensures that the letter is processed fast in sorting centres.

There are 8 PIN regions in the country and the first digit indicates the region. For Kerala, it is 6. First two digits together indicates a subregion. For Kerala, it is from 67 to 69. The first three digits together indicates the revenue district. The last 3 digits indicates the delivery post office.
