In an idiotic move, Kerala government completely banned private bus services in nationalized routes from today. Earlier private buses were allowed to run up to 10KM through nationalized routes. Now not even an inch through the nationalized routes are allowed and that means they can’t even cross them.

In a gruesome incident, 3 people were killed by an elephant at Koodal Manikyam temple (Irinjalakkuda). The elephant also caused extensive damage to the temple. The rampage continued for about 2 hours.

Criminals from DYFI and biggest Kerala mafia (Vyapari Vyvasayi association) ransacked the new Reliance retail shop scheduled to open today at Paravur. They destroyed property and poured oil on the building. Interestingly police never came to the spot and no one was arrested even after the violence.

Village offices in Kerala are well known for corruption. A number of certificates are issued from village offices (income certificate, nativity certificate etc.) and invariably bribe is required to get them. I have written many times on the lack of consumer choice in Kerala. The only hope is the arrival of new retail chains. In Kerala, Trivandrum is especially hostile to consumers. Most of the shopkeepers are behaving like they are running some kind of charity shop for consumers.
