About

Kerala Tips is all about Kerala - its people, its places and its history. This site was started as a blog in January 2007. Currently it is being redesigned as an authentic site on everything about Kerala.

Kerala is a place endowed with unmatched natural beauty and intelligent people.  So it is also popularly know as "God’s Own Country" and it is a term which I think is best way to describe Kerala’s climate and its natural beauty. When it comes to healthcare and education, Kerala ranks among the best in the world.

Best of Kerala include its Natural Beauty and Climate, Educated Population, Arts/Literature and mouth watering Kerala Cuisine.

Yet it is also a place where you find a lot of nonsense. I guess education is a double edged sword. So you find people fighting for even silly things. For everything there is opposition - even when it involves improvement of basic infrastructure like roads, mobile phone towers or hydro electric power plants, people fight either because they are idiots or because there is commercial interest behind the protest.

It is also unique in the world for a protesting mechanism called "harthal" where by a group of thugs can interfere in your individual freedom without facing prosecution. So if you are living here you will have to face the reality that sometimes rule of the law is replaced by rule of the stupid mob. But the good side is that you can override it if you have money!

About the author

Here are the things that I stand for,

  • I am not a fan of political parties some of which are congress, communist party and BJP.
  • I believe in "meritocracy". We should only give reservation/scholarship to the people who are financially backward. The current reservation system will destroy us in the near future.
  • I believe we should promote an open culture where women are respected, individual freedom is protected and competition is encouraged.
  • When it comes to protection of our environment, we should be pragmatic not fanatic. Don’t ever forget that every action we take needs to be a trade off.

I can be contacted at keralatips@gmail.com. I welcome comments, suggestions, criticism  and even abuse! I may not reply to all of them, but be assured that I read every one of them.

I also welcome guest articles by other authors under the condition that they are about Kerala and the content is legal in India.
