Politicians – are they super citizens?
December 7th, 2008
In yet another display of political arrogance, two MPs from Kerala caused flight delay at Delhi International Airport. According to reports they refused to change the flight when the original flight developed a technical snag. They also decided to go on a “dharna” inside the faulty aircraft!! The drama caused additional delay and finally the flight took off without the MPs. From the TOI report,
Passengers were requested to deplane IC-465 when the plane developed a technical snag before departure. All passengers except Varkala Radhakrishnan, CPM MP from Chirayinkil and Dr KS Manoj, CPM MP from Alleppey refused to get down.
Finally, after heated discussions with the crew the two MPs were offloaded. The rest of the passengers were made to board another flight at 9:30 pm, four hours later than their scheduled departure.
This is not the first time that politicians are doing this and in one case a guy even tried to enter the cockpit!
What right do they have to cause misery to all the other passengers? Tell me guys, what will happen if one of us decides to do a dharna in a flight?
Now this is just the tip of iceberg. Politicians think that they are above everyone else and can do whatever they want to do. Many think that they are above law. For example, Kerala government recently withdrew a number of criminal cases filed against politicians. Such actions are a complete mockery of our judicial system and the rule of law. Where is the justice?
I recently came across an SMS quoted many times by media and newspapers. It says,
“Yes, we need to be scared about the people who came in on the boat but we need to be even more worried about the people who come in on our votes.”
It also reminds me the quote from George Orwell’s Animal Farm (It is a master piece and Malayalis are sure to find it fascinating! I highly recommend it.)
“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
