DC Books international book fair at Trivandrum
November 1st, 2008
DC Books is organizing a 12 day DC International book fair & cultural fest at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, Trivandrum. Over 300 publishers are participating in the book fair and according to the organizers 10 lakh books on a wide range of topics are available at the fair. As part of the book fair, various cultural events such as reading sessions, competitions for children and book releases are organized. Book fair will be open from 30th October to 10th November 2008 (10AM to 9PM).
I happened to visit the book fair today and was overwhelmed by the sheer number of books available at the venue. There are also a lot of educational material including multimedia titles for children. For very young children I recommend titles such as “Manjadi” and “Minna Minni”.
Unlike the earlier book fairs I have been to in Trivandrum, this offers a hassle free book shopping experience. You can buy your books in various shops and finally collect all of them at the exit counter.
There are a number of cultural events organized as part of the book fair,
November 1 (Rajaraja Varma Day) - Book releases (oru sankeerthanam pole, kamuki, Malabar express etc.) and flute/piano concert.
November 2 (EMS Day) - Commemorate lecture on EMS, book releases (Gaddar: Paattum Porattavum) and folk music.
November 3 (Ayyankali Day) - Commemorate lecture on Ayyankali, Stage performance of the play “Khasakkinte Ithihasathilude” and book releases.
November 4 (Vikram Sarabhai Day) - Book releases and Mehfil with chief minister as guest.
November 5 (P. Balakrishnan Day) - Book releases and drama (prakasham parattunna penkuttikal).
November 6 (Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair Day) - Book releases and documentary screening.
November 7 (Elamkulam Kunjan Pillai Day) - Book releases, talk by K.M. Roy and drama.
November 8 (Aravindan Day) - Book releases and santhoor concert.
November 9 (Pattom Thanu Pillai Day) - Book releases and Ghazal.
If you are somewhere around Trivandrum, don’t miss it. It is a paradise for book lovers! Did you visit the book fair? Share your experience in comments below.
