Nonsense in kerala – federation of petrol pump owners
August 3rd, 2008
News : All Kerala Federation of Petroleum Dealers had earlier declared that they won’t sell petrol below 1 litre and it is already enforced in Kerala. No one cares that such a decision is illegal. Now they have said that petrol pumps won’t open on sunday and on working days they will operate only from 6am to 8pm! Now that is what I call democray – a small group of goondas taking the entire population as hostage and sadly the Kerala government prefers to wait and watch the entire show.
Rarely a single day passes in Kerala without some stupid agitation or some organized goondaism. As I have written infinite times before, it appears that Malayalees are having too much freedom. Organized groups are virtually holding the silent majority as a hostage and the stupid government just sits and watches.
Take for example the recent unilateral and illegal move by Petrol pump dealers association in Kerala. Like the Vypari Vyvasayi mafia, they are imposing idiotic restrictions on the common man. The Petrol pump dealers have decided to declare Sunday as a holiday for petrol pumps. They have also decided to close petrol pumps by 8PM. This will be the first such case in the entire world I guess!
What are their reasons? According to them it is very dangerous to keep petrol pumps open in Kerala! yes in Kerala! Another reason is that due to keeping a petrol pump open 24×7, there is a lot of fuel evaporation! Man, this is genius! Especially when you know that Kerala is one of the safest places in India and yet this is implemented only in Kerala.
Now even if they had problems, they should have first taken redressal mechanisms(it is a democracy!) before going ahead and torturing poor customers!
You don’t need to be a genius to know what is going to happen now. Yesterday suddenly almost all petrol pumps started closing after 1PM (since it is a sunday) and there was confusion all around. My cousin was stuck at Chalakkudi since there wasn’t a single petrol pump open. He said he had to take an auto somewhere to buy petrol from black market (black market petrol costs Rs. 6 more and it is invariably adulterated)
Now look at the state of petrol pumps. Petrol pumps are supposed to provide facilities to travellers such as clean toilet facilities, automatic air pumps, resting place etc. etc. Most of the petrol pumps don’t even have toilet facilities and if there is one, only a cocroach can use it! Also don’t forget this. A good majority of petrol pumps in Kerala is dispensing adulterated petrol (mixing with Kerosense) and a lot of them were recently fined by petroleum companies.
Now on top of all this, they have decided to keep it closed. Now these are not independent shop owners. They are issued a license by government of india under certain terms and conditions which includes operating times etc. Now if they refuse to comply with it government should simply revoke the license and give the license it to someone else!
What I suggest is this. Simply follow this and you have order,
1. Revoke licenses of all petrol pumps violating license terms.
2. Directly dispense petrol with police protection for a week.
3. Issue immediate new licenses wherever there is problem.
But the problem is that both central and state govenment is spineless. They will talk tough but won’t take any action. It is pretty evident, otherwise would the petrol pump owners risk loosing their license?
I am only happy since I am rich guy and keep by 45 litre capacity swift diesel tank full and I can drive 800 kilometres with it! I only feel a sadistic pleasure when I know that the poor autorickshaw guy can’t do that

Man, will you edit this out?? you are landing yourself in a situation…being rich, have some savings, owning a car, starting a business all are considered to be ‘boorshwa’ characters in Kerala..[:)]
On these petrol owners buggers, I think they will be brought to feet by the Govt. The Minister has already given out about this nonsense. There will be stringent measures, I’m sure, as this is going to affect everybody…even the politicians. So…

Vyapari and vyavasais are doomed cos we have the retailers coming in. Soon these buggers will learn a lesson.

Woah! This is the LIMIT!
So tomorrow, Medical stores can do something similar, restaurants can do something like this..
Trust me, Malayalees are yet to learn to do business!
I hope all their licenses are canceled.
Can’t ESMA be brought in to book these people?

Dear Nikhil,
Government has enough power at its disposal to deal with such nonsense. Even a district collector can make a difference. But the corrupt politicians sabotage everything(See what happened to Rishi raj singh! He can’t sit in a chair long enough even to think!). Otherwise how can these dealers so sure that nothing will happen to their licenses?

@scorpiongenius,
In Kerala, you call someone as “BOORSHAW” when you are JEALOUS of him. That is the easiest way to bring someone down (competition is hard
)

On a lighter note
Boorshaw(sic) (Bourgeois):
Lalettan says this dialogue in a movie, can’t remember which one. “Anger oru Bourgeois aanu”, the other character asks “Athinte artham enthaa?”
He says: “Angane artham onnum illa, virodham ullavare vilikkanda oru vaakk aanu”

Scorpio, KeralaTips, Nikhil,
BOORSHAW !! hahaha. the favorite word among the Red colored team.
I think ’someone’ in kerala wants to lead a black market business and make money. first we banned arrack, its sold in Black market. Then we closed down all bars, liquor shops on 1st of every month, only to help the black markets. I think this is a way to make more business and to squeeze the public.

IT WAS REALLY SHOCKING TO READ SUCH RUBBISH COMMANDS ABOUT A PETROL BUNK OPERATOR. LIKE SOME OF THE PEOPLE TELLING THAT PETROL BUNK OPERATORS ARE BURSHAS, OR GUNDAS OR MAFIAS ETC. THESE PEOPLE DONT KNOW HOW MOST OF THESE PPEOPLE RUN THE SHOW. IF ANY ONE WANTED TO RUN A PETROL BUNK THERE ARE HUNDEREDS OF THEM FOR SALE IN KERALS. IT IS NOT EASY NOW DAYS TO MIX KEROSENE AND SELL SINCE ALL THE COMPANIES HAVE MARKER TEST TO FIND IT OUT. AND IT IS NOT EASY FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE OVER A PETROL BUNK LIKE OTHER BUSINESS COZ IF A PETROL BUNK GUY WANTED TO STOP ITS IS SIMPLE ( DONT WANT TO DISCLOSE ) AND IF HE BUILT A SHOPPING COMPLEX HE GETS MORE MONEY THAN THIS. SO PEOPLE IN KERALA SHOULD NOT PUT UP SUCH COMMENTS WHICH IS REALLY WORDS FROM SOM ILLITRATE PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW ONE THING THAT A PETROL BUNK GUY GETS 1.25 RS FOR PETROL PER LITRE AND 66 PAISA FOR DIESEL
WITH TODAYS TYPE OF SALARY AND POWER TARIFF ITS IS NOT WORTH TO RUN PETROL UNK IN KERALA

YOU ARE CORRECT KUMAR.
THE PEOPLE DONT KNOW THE REAL SITUATION OF PETROL PUMP OWNERS. EVERYONE WANT TO ARREST THEM. WHAT ARE THEY? THEY ARE NOT SLAVES OF THE PUBLIC. THEY ARE SPENDING THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY AND TAKING STOCKS, SELLING THEM AND SERVING THE PUBLIC……..ONLY TO GET SLAMMED BY SOME ILLERATES WHO HAVE MONEY BUT NO SENSE.
PLEASE NOTE IT IS THE COMPANY AND COMPANY STAFF WHO MAKE MONEY AND NOT THE POOR PETROLEUM DEALERS. AN AVERAGE OIL COMPANY STAFF HAS A SALARY OF NEARLY 30000 – 70000 RUPEES. BUT A PETROL PUMP OWNER GETS MERELY NOTHING AT ALL….EVEN THE EVAPORATION LOSS HAS TO BE MET BY THE OWNER. WHEN PRICE RISES COMPANY GIVES NO STOCK, BUT WHEN PRICE DECREASES COMPANY PUSHES THE DEALERS TO TAKE STOCK……..IF THIS GOES ON ALMOST ALL THE PETROL PUMP OWNERS WILL BE BANKRUPT .
STILL THE COMPANY MEN ARE CONDUCTING STRIKES FOR INCREASED PAY AND ALLOWANCES, AND THE PUBLIC HAS NOTHING TO COMMENT ABOUT THE COMPANIES.
January 24th, 2009 at 9:55 am
AND PLEASE NOTE……….THE HEADING OF THIS TREAD SHOULD BE………”A NEW MAFIA IN INDIA – FEDERATION OF OIL COMPANY STAFF “……and not A new mafia in kerala – federation of petrol pump owners
