Now it is the turn for cable tv operator’s association
May 15th, 2008
Forming associations/unions to fight “competition” is nothing new Kerala. The latest “association” to take that route is All Kerala cable tv operator’s association. According to them the cable tv space is being taken over by “kuthakakal” (monopolies) and they are going to fight it.
They are planning a dharna on 22nd May at Ernakulam. A number of politicians/”samskarika nayakanmar” has offered to take part in the agitation!
Unlike “vyapari/vyvasayis” who can destroy property of retail chains, cable tv operator’s don’t have a real target (except perhaps Asianet). The problem is that all others (Tata sky, Dish tv etc.) are on DTH platform which only requires a satellite. Now how do you destroy a satellite?
Perhaps they can do a “bucket pirivu” to buy a space ship from USA. Then they can fly to the satellite and disable all DTH transponders. I will of course pay for this “pirivu” if americans can ensure that the space ship won’t return

Thats was a nice picture. Explains the concept neatly. They had their time. Now its the time of kuthas. Ultimately I get a better service and I am happy.

haha. I am sure they are not bothered about the monolpoly, but the sudden ivansion of DTH in India. I guess there are 4 in the market now, tata, dishtv, sun and dd…. so they are losing out customers.

I am confused by their definition of Kuthaka now.
MCOs like ACV/Siti/SCV-Aren’t they kuthaka? Wny not buy 20 dishes are become MCOs on their own
As an association-aren’t they kuthaka?
Like, when you have a micro mini market share, you are not a Kuthaka, otherwise yes.
Weirdos.

You forget - the aim of these association is not to take out a satellite etc. it is basically to organize a dharna, strikes, move on to destroy some public property, take out a few private satellite dishes if there are any. in general, be a totlal pain in the a** for the general public. This is the model followed by the general kerala labour union.
