Kerala government offers more torture - No private bus in nationalized routes

In an idiotic move, Kerala government completely banned private bus services in nationalized routes from today. Earlier private buses were allowed to run up to 10KM through nationalized routes. Now not even an inch through the nationalized routes are allowed and that means they can’t even cross them.

This move will surely bring untold misery to people in many areas. The KSRTC (Kerala Road Transport Corporation) is a white elephant which is nearly useless. This move is intended to give more revenue to KSRTC, but as we have seen many times in the past will only increase the loss accumulated by KSRTC. Oh god! when will these morons learn?

This move will increase black marketing of existing bus permits (issued before 2006) and is also going to bring misery to bus travellers. This will also promote “kuthakakal” (monopolies) of private bus owners.

But ha ha ha! I like this move as I own a car and I don’t use bus at all. This is only going to affect the poor and middle class people of Kerala who depend on the bus services.

So again for every progressive step we take, there are idiots in our administration(and stupid politicians) who will force us to take two steps backward. Funny, it is only two days since I wrote about the myth of public sector!

Interesting trivia: Any idea who went to court against private bus services in Kerala? - It is the CITU - the same set of gangsters who terrorize malayalees in the name of “worker rights”. Who demand “nokkukooli” (wage without work!) just for watching somebody else doing the work!

Very true indeed. Im wondering what will happen to all those in the northern region of Kerala. Its high time that the govt let the market compete.

I think even when u report this story you act like a snob. I, for one, know that this ruling cannot and will not b implemented. I love Kerala’s private bus transport and when people ask me what is it that makes me live in Kerala, i say that it is the buses here. Try travelling in a bus in Maharashtra and you’ll know the difference. KSRTC bus service is inept in changing it’s own bus tyres or clean the buses. Private bus transport clean their buses on a daily basis. Well anything as absurd as not being allowed to ply on NH is simply absurd. How can a person go from Irinjalakuda to Varandirapilly if the private buses are not allowed to cross over. I think the rule is absurd and die out in the face of protests and actions. People in Kerala, well, nearly most of them don’t own cars like you and i think they are smarter than you to take some positive action rather than sit and laugh.

    Gopal,

I was just pointing out that “socialistic” moves like these are only going to help the rich to become more rich. It is the ordinary people who are going to suffer.

Positive action? In Kerala, you will get thousand protestors to protect “lion tailed monkey” but not for some sensible protest.

On highways, we often come across KSRTC buses and private buses which forcefully overtake, even if vehicles come from the opposite direction. These drivers wilfully cause accidents.
Such violations should be booked. Although such incidents are being reported to the police, they take no action!!! We need strict enforcement of traffic laws by the police in this regard. Stop the forceful overtaking by KSRTC buses and similar large vehicles!!!!

  5. Toms Says:

The Kerala Police is to use speed radar imported from Germany to check speeding vehicles and drunk drivers. It should first check and take action on overspeeding KSRTC Buses. Though there are many signboards for speeed limit and yellow lines marked, it is as though these are not binding for KSRTC buses. The police simply ignore traffic violations by KSRTC drivers. It is high time they turn their attention to these people to reduce accidents on highways.

KSRTC and other private bus drivers, stop your road goondaism!!!! People of Kerala want the police to check these drivers when they drive along highways, most of them don’t obey yellow line rules and speed limits. The police are very eager to check other motorists, but become blind when KSRTC buses violate these.
