In praise of KTDC Motel Aaram
May 10th, 2008
If you are travelling often on Kerala highways, you would be looking for good hotels where you can relax and get some decent food. If you are not a regular traveller, this is much more difficult than you think. Most of the highway side hotels are a rip-off.
I don’t know about other activities of KTDC (Kerala Tourism Development Corporation), but one thing that they run smoothly is the Motel Aaram chain of hotels. Most of these have plenty of parking space (Kayamkulam, Alappuzha) and offers good food. For lunch they offer nadan meals (buffet) and it is good. For evening tea, ‘ilayappam’ is an irresistible item! Facilities such as toilets have also been improved recently.
The only problem with Motel Aaram is that it is a bit costly. That may come as a surprise when you know that it is run by “socialist” Kerala Government. Another interesting aspect is that the staff (again government employees) are courteous! Surprising indeed! Motel Aaram is visited by top government officials and politicians - now you know the secret behind its efficiency
Here is a list of KTDC Motels (beware, don’t confuse KTDC motels with KTDC beer parlors such as the one in Kazhakkoottam),
KTDC Motel Aaram at Kayamkulam,
For families who are going on a long drive, Motel Aaram is a life saver!
