RPG Spencer’s opens first hypermarket in Kerala
December 15th, 2007
Retail chain Spencer’s opened the first hypermarket in Kerala at Kozhikkode. This store is spread over 13,000+ sq.ft and on sale are about 25,000+ items! There is also an integrated Chef corner which will provide Kerala, Chinese and Italian cuisines.
Spencer’s is planning to open similar stores in Trivandrum and Cochin. For the consumers, who are suffering at the hands of the trader mafia and drugs mafia in Kerala, this is a welcome change. No wonder people crowd at these new generation stores.
One major advantage with these stores is that they offer products at good quality and quantity. Most of the time, it is worth to buy from here since the quantity is assured. For example, if you buy apple for Rs. 50 per Kg from outside what you get is only 750g. But in spencer’s and other chains such as big bazaar, you will get exactly 1000g for Rs.55!
Just like the ant-computer agitations some time back, there are some rowdy elements protesting against these stores. Obviously people with vested interests will try everything in their power to stop consumer choice.
