Amrita Super Dancer - Aren’t there any good Malayali judges?

Super Dancer in AmritaAmrita TV’s Super Dancer is a reality show to find the best dancer in Kerala. It is pretty good and there is a huge viewer base for this program. Since the first prize is a Swift car, the competition is hot.

Prasanth seems to be the favorite dancer from the SMS voting. But like they did it with superstar junior, Amrita TV may introduce a judge elimination round to get rid of Prsasanth.

What is more interesting is that the entire show looks like a Tamil program. Judges can barely speak any malayalam. To impress judges, contestants invariably choose a Tamil song for the dance! Is it that there is no talent in Kerala to judge super dancer?

Actually I wanted to comment on Amritha Superstar Global which is becoming a farce on account of the judges.

Jyotsna who is in the singing field for barely 5 years and 2 music directors - Shan and George Peter - who have not yet registered any hit. What is the criteria for choosing a judge
Cmon if you are conducting a competition at least get decent judges. And virtually every singer asked to sing an adipoli song, sings the obnoxious “dilamo Dilamo”. Arent there any faster and better numbers in filmdom?

Also the singers should sing ONLY malayalam songs instead of the Dhoom machale types.

Look at Kairali’s Gandharava Sangeetham. It was a class apart

yep. this is pathetic. this dance master who is a judge never makes an effort to speak in malayalam.. its too weird.. and whenever there are songs of the tam style (the high-beat wild type of songs), she screams and shouts juz as any other uncultured tam would do when he/she sees rajanikanth on screen.. its pathetic.. we should have better civilized malayali judges.. and contestants should be asked to choose only malayalam songs..

    Very true.
The judges may be good in their fields, but without doubt we have very talented choreographers and dancers in Kerala too. The dance master may be an experienced choreographer for films but she is no authority in the classical field. Therefore when the dancers include classical steps (for instance Kathak) asking them, “Who told you it’s not Kathak? It is Kathak.” and so on, serves only to dishearten the aspiring dancers. On the surface it may seem like she is encouraging the dancer, yet it exposes the ignorance of the young dancer. The dance master seems to have toned down a little now ( probably after a barrage of protests from viewers). It is sad to see dancers being made to feel small before the judges.
Undoubtedly, artists and choreographers should be respected, whichever state they come from. However, while dance and the appreciation of it transcends regional differences, it is surprising that the producers and organisers could not come up with judges from Kerala. After all Keralites are noted for their appreciation of the arts. There is no dearth of talented artists in Kerala who can serve as judges. Even if some of them may be from the classical field, they would definitely be able to judge modern dances too. In my opinion the dance master could serve in the panel, but someone from Kerala should have been made the main judge. Vanitaratnam’s judges had the right balance of critical appreciation and encouragement for the participants. Why was the same criteria not applied for Super Dancer?

Food for thought - contest participants in Malayalam channels ever so often sing Tamil or Hindi songs. They also perform to those songs. Malayalam channels bring in judges from other states. Yet, has any Hindi or Tamil channel accepted items in Malayalam? Rarely, if ever. This is mentioned not in a revengeful note but with the strong feeling that where contests are concerned, priority should be given to performances for songs in Malayalam. We have come a long way from the seventies and eighties. There are pulsating energizing songs in Malayalam too. Participants perhaps hesitate to choose them as they probably feel the judges will not be able to relate to them. Let’s not put the cart before the horse. Choose the correct judges and Malayalam entertainment will shoot forward by leaps and bounds.
