Community policing in Kerala

Kerala government has decided to extend community policing initiative across the state. This initiative was successful in bringing down armed robbery in mainy residential colonies. Like any initiative, this has some problems as well. Sometimes the volunteers take law into their hands and beat up anybody who just happens to be a passerby.
A big problem has been the armed gangs from TamilNadu. They specialize in robbery and most of the time they are brutal. They knock down the door or windows and then hit the people sleeping inside with anything heavy they can get near the house. In many residential areas people are ready to volunteer for community policing simply because they are terrorized by these tamil gangs.
Tamil robber :- Malayalees are idiots. We don’t need to carry any weapons for robbery. You can always find some “ammikkallu” or big knife or something similar behind every Kerala house. Just take it and use it!
