Self financing college drama in Kerala
May 7th, 2007
Kerala government got another kick from Supreme court. It is well deserved. Government should have thought twice before bringing out such a stupid law. Any lawyer student would have told them that they had no chance in court!
It is funny to listen to what SFI says. They are saying it is unfair to poor students! My question is this - Is someone preventing government from starting new engineering or medical colleges? Why is Kerala goverment charging all these taxes (now there is even 20% service tax!). Instead of spending all these money on government employees, spend some amount on education also!
Now look at the self financing colleges run by cooperative societies. Most of these are controlled by left parties and they charge pretty heavy fees! Why can’t they charge less fee for poor students?
Let us bring complete revolution in Kerala. Let us provide free rooms for poor in 5 star hotels. Let us provide free healthcare in all 5 star hospitals. Let us provide free seats in all international flights going out of Kerala. Let us provide free honda city cars to all poor people in Kerala. Let us request lalu yadav to provide free seats in 2 tier AC and 1st class AC in trains. Let us make Kerala an utopia.

Thats absolute bullsh*t. Are you saying that the college managements should be allowed to levy ANY amount of fees they want? That is called ‘robbery’. Its not unfair only to poor students, but to middle class students as well. Who can afford to pay 5-10 lakhs for medical college admission? People go broke because of that. What kind of justice is it that the ‘minority’ college can ask for any amount of fees they want? Did you know that even the ‘5 star hotels’ and airlines you refer to have regulations over them. That is to prevent them from exploiting people by charging outrageous fees.
Is paying government employees the only thing that is done with taxes? Who pays subsidies for the cooking gas which you use everyday, so that you may get it cheaper? Who pays for the free treatment offered at government hospital? Did you know that without these ‘government employees’ you wouldnt be able to do many of the things you do in your daily life? You wouldn’t have electricity, water supply, gas, postal service .. the list goes on .. .
Its easy to lay blame. Are you saying the colleges should be allowed to charge any godforsaken fees since they spent so much money building the colleges? That would be like saying the private bus owners are to be allowed to charge any amount of money as bus charges since they spent lakhs of rupees buying the bus.
The government is elected by people like you . Of course you may have sat on your ass without voting and then blame whatever happens on the government. Thats so easy. The government make laws that are beneficial to the society. Of course, no government is perfect. There may be corruption, red tapes. But there is no government in the world without them.
So do your research before making such STUPID comments about things you dont know.

Thomas, somebody’s bull** can be somebody else’s semia payasam.
Jokes apart, get your facts straight. Government CAN open any number of colleges and charge ZERO fees on it. It can afford it because we all are PAYING a HELL LOT of TAX. It is another matter that most of it is siphoned by Government employees.
You say, none of the facilities such as electricity, water etc. won’t be available without government. what a rubbish! Government should only act as a regulator, but not poke its hand in everything. If these facilities were run by private parties it would have had better reliability and service. Just look around and see how mobile service has become so competitive since government decided to loosen its grip.
I would repeat what I have said before. Every day I see guys driving around in Mercedes Benz and Corolla and other exotic cars. Of course I would like to have one of them. But I am not STUPID to take a loan which I can’t repay and then in the end suicide and blame the government or the Mercedes company for making such cars!
Instead I am happy with my second hand motor bike. got it?

All that Thomas said is coming from our age old deep rooted socialist philosophy. But what we are failing to see is the fact that, if someone is bend upon sending his kid for engienering or medicine he will do it, no matter if its in kerala or outside. Id say, we can retain that money in Kerala itself.
