Kerala celebrates May Day 2007

Today is May day and workers around the world celebrate International Workers’ Day. In Kerala, this day(thozhilali dhinam) is celebrated by giving a holiday to all government employees. If you happen to travel around anywhere in Kerala, you can hear interesting songs and speeches blaring through loudspeakers.

Here are some May Day resolutions for Kerala government employees,

1. I will work for atleast 2 hours daily. I will try to report by 11:30AM and will not leave before 2:30PM.

2. I will promote social justice by implementing slab system when I take bribes. I will only charge 90% of my bribe from SC/ST (scheduled caste/tribe) and OBCs (other backward classes).

3. I will not consider citizens who come to me as “garbage”. I will try to treat them atleast as “beggars”.

4. I will try my best not to beat up my superior officers who doesn’t belong to any unions. I will try to limit it to verbal abuse.

5. I will distribute 1% of my illegal wealth to god (church/temple/mosque). He may spare me of the eternal hell.
