My friend is ecstatic. He tells me, I am going to get married dude, MARRIED!! Wait till I break the news to that bugger buddie2 (name changed!), he is going to be dead jealous now.
I: You haven’t seen the girl!! What if you don’t like her???
Him: Dumbo! with 60 acres of rubber who cares about the girl…
I: hmm… but you got to see the character right??….
Him: poda, you are crazy
I: k, as you wish… plz pass on my sympathies to the girl…:)
…he gets a call again from his mom at this point.
Suppose you are a nice guy and announce that you won’t take dowry. Also assume that you have a decent job and a decent income. When a marriage proposal comes up you say “no dowry is needed”. Girl’s relatives will think - “Either this guy is lunatic or he is suffering from erectile dysfunction syndrome (impotency)“. So if you find a girl you like, remember not to refuse dowry!

Once upon a time, among Nazaranis, dowry was the tradition of passing the girl’s share of property/wealth when she leaves the family. Till recently it had transformed to sickly bargainings and demands from the groom’s side. Off late a lot of change is seen, though still a lot of the so called ‘cool’ males just smile and keep quiet when offered! Shame Shame puppy Shame

Even if the groom says NO, the bride’s parents still feel their pride is at stake, if they didnt give dowry.

Be careful to tell your friend about the misuse of Dowry laws as well
These days I come across 100s if not 1000s of FALSE extortion cases and FALSE dowry cases. Courts have condemned this. The law that was made to protect the woman, seems to be grossly mis-used to extract money from innocent men or to wreck vengeance.
