A journalist’s take on Vimochana Samaram
April 11th, 2007
Journalist ramasundaram goes back in time and writes about what he saw during Vimochana Samaram. Vimochana samaram (liberation struggle) started in 1958 against the first communist government (led by EMS Namboothiripad). It ended when the Kerala government was dismissed by the central government after a police firing in which 15 people died,
There was a huge gathering with Christian priests and religious leaders. The body were loaded in a lorry. The Christian missionaries led the silent procession, along with the bodies in the lorry. One by one the dead body was handed over to the family of the deceased. The wife , children and relatives, of the deceased started crying falling over the body. It was such a moving sight. We covered the pathetic, heart wrenching scenes extensively the bodies being handed over to every family of the deceased. (My Life photographer friend, got a full page photograph of the event. His coverage brought him so much money he built some extensions to his house and named them as samaram wing)
