God, nudity and politics in Kerala

Is God nude? To put it in another way, does God need to put on clothes? These are some important questions which has turned Kerala upside down. It is reported that many in Kerala needed trauma care after the following news came out. Many were unable to visualize God without clothes…

It all began when Kerala Electricity minister A.K. Balan remarked that “God has no clothes in temple murals and idols” in state assembly. It hurt the opposition so much that decided to stage a walkout from the assembly!

There was widespread condemnation of minister’s statement as it would probably have hurt God’s feelings. Many parties are thinking boycotting A.K. Balan and some are even contemplating sending a memorandum to God himself/herself (I am not sure of the gender of God).

Come on guys, we all know politicians are not geniuses. But we do expect them to have minimum intelligence. It seems Congress party now has no issues to fight on!

First of all, why God needs clothes? He cannot be seen right? But then you may ask what about God men? They can see God right? Answer to that is the second point,

Secondly and most importantly how does it matter even if he is nude? The logic is simple - God cannot be male or female. If he is not one of them, what are we going to see when he is nude? Nothing, right?

My only hope is that seeing all this human stupidity, God decides to terminate his failed “intelligent creature experiment” and planet earth is hit by a very large meteorite…

Trivia - Check out the following famous drawing which depicts “God’s creation of man”. Surprisingly God does have clothes on him and the man is nude.

Does God even has a shape??

Also read this along with the recent controversy about MF Hussain over painting India nude. We have even Goddesses in nude postures in India, but why can’t we tolerate seeing India, the country, in the nude posture??

Its relevant to put in context the term India. The main culture of India i.e. hinduism refer to India as “mother India” and worship the land as a mother who has given them birth and has raised them up.

While also according to the same culture (and ancient religious texts), it is believed that children and husband do not flaw the dignity of the woman (their mother).

However I don’t find any reason why a son of the soil would want to paint their mother nude.

As far as goddesses are concerned… to be technically correct they are not godesses but rather ‘dasis’ , maidens, dancers and servants…
