Why we need emergency rule in Kerala
March 9th, 2007
In 1975, Indira Gandhi declared Emergency rule in India which lasted for 18 months. It was very effective in bringing discipline at the time (for example, government employees used to report at office on time). I think we need something similar declared in Kerala (after imposing President’s rule).
1. Hartal, hartals more hartals - Kerala citizen are harassed almost daily by parties/groups by calling hartals. Emergency ensures that no one will dare to call a harthal (since the guy ends up jail forever).
2. Goonda Raj - Goonda raj in Kerala has reached unbelievable proportions. Any Goonda with repeat offence should be jailed for 5 years without bail during emergency.
3. Corrupt officials - Corruption is all pervasive. Corrupt officials now operate openly since they have the political backing from both UDF and LDF parties. In china, people are even executed for corruption. I think this is something we can copy from chinese.
