New sex education plan in Kerala
February 12th, 2007
Kerala government has started a new sex education drive in high school. The idea is to impart sex education to children studying in 9th and 10th standard. In theory this idea is good since sex is a suppressed subject in Kerala and children get a lot of incorrect information about sex.
But when you look at the new syllabus, you will get the shock of your life! The syllabus is directly taken from american syllabus. Obviously situation is US is different from Kerala. This education is aimed at tackling Aids and the main emphasis is on the usage of condoms!
Yeah, right. As a teacher you tell the students in 9th standard - “Guys and gals, sex is safe if you use condoms.”
When we adapt something from american syllabus, we need to be careful about the social aspects as well. In Kerala,
1. Socially and legally sex is not allowed for children!
2. Socially and legally sex is not allowed even for adults unless they are married! (It is called immoral traffic!)
3. Man! There is no need to discuss sexual perversion in high school!
I feel pity for the teachers who are supposed to teach all these nonsense. Some examples from the syllabus,
“When did you masturbate for the first time? How did you feel? How it has changed your attitude towards girls?”
“Sex is fun and pleasurable only when you use condoms”

the step is certainly bold! any education is good i would say! first lesson should be about showing respect to women - BEFORE thinking of sex!!!

@MC,
Agree with you completely.
Kerala is probably the only place where a woman walking alone at 7PM is sure to get harassed.

There was one cartoon by PV Krishan based on this subject. Its that when lady teacher takes sex education class the male teacher from next class ask
Do you want a demo for lingodharanam (erection)
The students start bunking class saying
We know all these from toilets of trains running in Kerala
It was remarkable. Nowhere in India I have seen such filthy drawings and perversions drawn other than train toilets running in Kerala.
When I was in VIII std, a lady teacher teaching biology told that there is a chapter III which I will not take, and no questions will be asked, which you may or may not read.
So we all read that chapter at home eagerly it was about crosssection of hibiscus flower etc.
Also a malayalam teacher gave me a pinch on ear when I asked whats meaning of ‘rajaswala’ in dyootham a drama based on kaurava pandava gambling and Dussasan trying to denude Panchali who was ‘rajswala’ at that time.
Now kids have access ot computers and CDs are available anywaher for 10/- its good to give sexual education , but how is big million dollar question

It is not the sex education for high school students. We have our culture, we want to keep it, ne need to follow europien culture. Sex must do after marriege. If anyone want to know about sex, the elders will teach them

Why the hell are we so scandlaized from a proper sex education programme ? Basically we Indians are a bunch of filthy hippocrites & we Malayalees rule the roost !
Ever wondered why cant women move around freely without getting harassed ?…Kerala may be 100 % literate , but the effects of literacy has been found only in the sale of gossip or political magazines , sadly the civilized & improved mentality which should be imbibed has been forgotten !
I have seen the replies from some people trying to uphold ” Culture ” !….lol, could I please know what culture are we referring to ?..people can sneak and watch soft porn in shady movie halls but would dread to see an aesthatically placed kissing scene in a good movie , we can watch shakeela , rambha shake their elephant butts but sadly we cannot view nudity depicted in an artistic form !…get real guys , we all are products of sex & shouldnt be ashamed of it , no one decides at what age should others mature !…lets accept what comes naturally and be our real selves rather than indulging in hippocrisy watching shakeela movies on Surya !

It is no wonder that we are such sycophants.WHO approved sex education materials may be used if available!Yet the fact that what menstruated women or erectile males should do with their assets are better left to themselves as long as they do not cross the golden commonsense limits.
It must be clearly taught that intercourse and attempting to generate a new human unit are entirely different enterprises
the former unavoidable for the latter, but the latter definitely optional to what one competence one has achieved other than wagging the available tail, hardened or otherwise..
It must also necessarily taught that if raped or forcefully got into sex a women can always take a NEW drug with in X hours which will avoid the feared unwanted pregnancy now available across the counter with out worry. It will save lives,at least one!
