Rainbow storage by Sainul Abideen
January 23rd, 2007
Sainul Abideen, who has just finished his MCA from MES Engineering College in Kuttipuram in Kerala’s Malappuram district, has developed a technique for portable data whereby the data can now be stored on ordinary paper. This technology is called as Rainbow storage.
Interestingly this news item was picked up by a lot of technical forums and social bookmarking sites such as digg. The verdict was that it is a hoax. But Sainul explains that people are confusing different things,
There are some rumors spreading around the world about my work, Rainbow Storage. We can store 100s of GBs of data in a sheet of ordinary paper is a great misunderstanding and I do believe that it is impossible with existing technologies. Many technical groups are discussing about this and they are wasting their valuable time. I think they are mixing my two statements.
1) We can store data even on an ordinary paper
2) We can achieve huge density by using rainbow storageI used an ordinary sheet of paper to demonstrate this work, I think that’s why the misunderstanding.
