Private bus menace in Kodungalloor road
January 18th, 2007
Yesterday I happened to drive from Thrissur to Kodungallur. This road is a narrow two lane road, but the problem is that it is well maintained! This road is a curse for the local residents. The villain? - Limited stop private buses that ply on this road.
While driving, a long distance bus overtook me at about 90KM/hr. I decided to follow it to see how they drive. I followed him for about 10 KMs and sometimes I was going at 110KM/hr! It was pure luck that nothing bad didn’t happen. A few times cars coming from the opposite direction had to apply sudden brake or steer out of the main road into the ditch. On one occasion there was a narrow escape for an auto and everyone on that was screaming like hell.
I called up the police and reported the bus number. Yes, I was well aware nothing would happen. Private bus owners pump bribe from top to bottom (RTO and Police).
This is why supreme court ordered compulsory speed governors for heavy vehicles. But government seems to be worried more about bus owners than the ordinary citizens.
Check out the following photo. It is probably intentional that they had Lord Siva on the emergency exit! (For those who doesn’t know - Siva is the god of death and destruction!). Note that this is not the limited stop bus I had mentioned above.

Can’t our public transport system (private) developed in a decent manner? Like, in Dubai. Since I am here, I am just suggesting it. An Assosiation should formed and develop lots of systems, and everyone must follow.
May some of the current assosiation peronal visit Dubai and study it, but make sure that, in the name of study he dont visit Dubai and return.

Nice Article! I agree with the comments about our public transport system. Mr. Gireesh, we cannot compaire Dubai with our kerala state. we proudly says we are from a democratic nation. in Dubai, Ruler of the land can take any action with out any hesitation. our political system totally corrupted. They knows public won’t turn against them, until the election. Lets pray for a better future to our keralam.
NB: Please dont believe Dubai Transport System is the best one. If you want to go to AlQouz or Satwa, You have to wait hours in the bus stops. while they claim frequent services, in fact they are promoting Taxi service!
( Death & Distruction… perhaps in a sense Siva represents both. But here He stands for “Moksha” for the innocent souls!)

Yesterday (Nov.20.2008) I had a very bad experience in Thrissur to Kodungallur bus service. First when I took the bus to Thrissur from Kodungallur the conductor never give ticket for any passengers & in the way back same thing happened (different bus)…. but on Thrissur to Kodungallur return way around 3.30pm after Iranjikuda there was a bus accident, so we wait for 30 min for clear up & after that, our conductor asked to continue our trip to Kodungallur in other bus…….. But other in other bus conductor asked us to pay again for the rest of the way, as I’m a Tamil when explained in English & Tamil again he forced me to pay (but he gave the ticket & noticed other passengers who got in from my bus paid again)
PS:
I’m a Srilankan Tamil who is a Visitor/ tourist & new for Kodungallur & this is not the first time before also one time happened in Kodungallur to Thrissur bus they didn’t give ticket (for all passengers)
